Walmart to accept Alipay mobile payments in China
Acceptance will begin with 25 stores in Shenzen.
Walmart announced Wednesday that it will accept Alipay's mobile payments service at its stores in China as the retail giant seeks to build a stronger presence in the market, according to multiple media reports.
Ant Financial, an affiliate of Alibaba, said Alipay acceptance inside Walmart stores will begin with 25 stores in Shenzen and will come to all 410 stores in China by the end of the year, according to a report from Fortune.
In the U.S., Walmart is one of the leading retailers in the Merchant Customer Exchange and its mobile payments system CurrentC. That system has yet to debut and a pilot is scheduled this summer in a single market.
