Wal-Mart links with Amex Bluebird for mobile funds transfer

Walmart and American Express have introduced a new service that will enable Bluebird prepaid debit cardholders to to digitally send money for cash pickup at Wal-Mart store locations starting in May, according to a press release.

Accountholders can access the new service, called Bluebird2Walmart, by visiting Bluebird.com or by using the Bluebird app on their smartphone.

Funds receipients do not need a Bluebird account; they can simply pick up their funds at any Wal-Mart store within minutes of the online transfer. Pricing is consistent with the deeply discounted prices charged for Walmart2Walmart, a funds transfer service the retail chain introduced three years ago.
