Visa chip card issuance gathering momentum in US
Visa has released its latest report benchmarking progress in the U.S. migration to EMV chip-enabled cards and payments.
According to the card network's published statistics:
- Visa chip cards outnumber U.S. residents at 326 million vs. 324 million, respectively;
- 1 in 4 dollars spent in stores with Visa was spent with a chip card used at a chip terminal;
- New Jersey boasts the largest percentage of chip-ready merchants. Pennsylvania, California, Connecticut and Florida follow with about one-third of merchants accepting chip cards; and
- counterfeit card fraud continues to decline at chip card-ready merchants, falling 35 percent in March 2016 compared with the previous year.
