Verifone, Aava Mobile partner to offer Intel-powered mPOS device

The product is based on Verifone's device and operating system-agnostic mPOS terminal integrated with Aava Mobile's rugged handheld tablet PC, which is powered by the Intel Atom processor.

Verifone and Aava Mobile this week announced what the companies called the first handheld mobile point of sale product powered by Intel to deliver a flexible, long-lasting EMV-ready device for enterprise retailers, according to a press release.

The product is based on Verifone's device and operating system-agnostic mPOS terminal integrated with Aava Mobile's rugged handheld tablet PC, which is powered by the Intel Atom processor.

"Verifone's device and OS-agnostic offering combined with Aava Mobile's Intel-powered tablet provides the ultimate in mPOS flexibility," Dennis Mos, general manager of global solutions management for Verifone, said in a statement. "In addition to accepting EMV, NFC and all other payment methods, this solution serves as a connected network endpoint that also enables retailers to delight customers with an engaging digital commerce experience — anywhere in the store."

Verifone said its e355 is supported by the company's secure commerce architecture, which is intended to help retailers better protect cardholder data by connecting the device directly to the processor host. This prevents sensitive payment data from becoming exposed to POS malware commonly used by cybercriminals. It also enables security and PCI software updates to be remotely uploaded to terminals throughout the retailer’s estate, according to the announcement.
