UMobile POS combines in-store, out-of-store mobile checkout

Mobile POS technology for integrating in-store and out-of-store retail sales in a single transaction is the main feature of UniteU Technologies' offering at the 2014 NRF show.

Pittsford, N.Y.-based UniteU has upgraded its uMobile POS technology with a new extension that connects the mPOS solution to its Magento eCommerce platform.

Previously, if customers wanted to purchase an in-store item and an item found off site, for example a product that is out-of-stock but available at the retailer's warehouse or other location, they would have to make two separate payments, explains Soumen Das, UniteU's CEO, in a statement.

"With our new uMobile POS feature-set, those transactions are all combined into one on the front end," Das said. "The customer and the sales associate only need to make one transaction via the mobile POS device, swipe the credit card once using the encrypted sled on the unit, and we take care of everything else on the back end."

Shoppers can leave the store with the available items and have out-of-stock items delivered to their home, UniteU said in a news release.

UMobile POS is offered in a cloud to mid-market retailers as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution. As well as processing transactions and arranging deliveries, it allows retail staff to assist shoppers by looking up their previous orders.
