UL type approval program for mobile devices gets EMVCo OK

UL has announced that it is now able to provide official certification of mobile devices under new EMVCo requirements, according to a press release.

The EMVCo Mobile Type Approval phase two qualification program represents an evolution of the existing test assessment summary process.

The second phase of EMVCo mobile product level one type approval expands the scope of level one testing to include:

  • HCE execution environment;
  • handset performance;
  • handset interoperability testing; and
  • multiple execution environment testing.

The activation of this new phase commenced on March 25.

"We are delighted to be among the first laboratories supporting this new EMVCo type approval program," said Erwin Jansen, managing director for EMEA and Latin America in the UL transaction security division. "Our test environment is ready to support our customers to verify their devices are compliant against these new EMVCo test requirements and sufficiently operate with a representative set of deployed payment terminals."
