StubHub intros new mobile ticketing capabilities

StubHub today rolled out upgrades to its mobile ticketing capabilities, intended to make it easier for consumers to both purchase tickets at the last minute and use their smartphone to enter select venues. The company said in a statement the improvements eliminate many of the traditional headaches of live-event going such as having to print physical tickets, while thwarting day-of and on-site ticket scalping.

StubHub and its partners AEG and Major League Baseball are together introducing the enhanced mobile ticketing capabilities, the company said in a statement. Overall, more than 25 AEG venues and 21 MLB teams will now be optimized for mobile devices to provide instant access at select venues.

"With 80 percent of sales on StubHub now electronic, we are constantly innovating ways to make every part of our fans' experience more seamless, from discovering local events to using smartphones to get into events — much like how it is now commonplace for consumers to use their phones to board planes," Anand Narayan, senior product manager at StubHub, said in a statement. "Making it easier for users to purchase guaranteed tickets last minute and be able to walk into venues without the need to have a physical ticket represents how we are approaching the live event experience across the board — all mobile, all the time."

StubHub continues to see a significant rise in mobile ticket purchases, growing at nearly 70 percent mobile sales year over year, the company said. StubHub now sells one ticket per second and, in 2013 alone, it saw a 61-percent increase in concert ticket sales.

Mobile tickets represent one piece of the broader mobile user experience StubHub continues to improve, it said in the press release. Fans can also use the company's app to learn when tickets are in their budget through price alert notifications, see the view from their section before they buy and discover where to eat around events through Yelp integration.
