Starbucks to intro mobile ordering in Portland

Company also will create more personalized offers through its mobile app.

Starbucks will introduce mobile order and payment in a initial launch at stores in the Portland area before the end of the calendar year, according to a press release. The service will enable customers to place orders in advance of their visit and pick them up at their selected Starbucks location.

Starbucks plans to launch the service nationwide throughout 2015, according to the announcement.

In addition to payments, Starbucks created what it believes are compelling value and benefits within its loyalty program for its customers using mobile devices. The company's loyalty program intends to deliver more meaningful, relevant and personal rewards to its customers. Benefits include access to special events such as the upcoming Holiday Share Event, sneak previews of new products and promotions and additional opportunities to earn and redeem rewards across the Starbucks family of brands, in addition to earning stars down the grocery aisle with the purchase of Starbucks packaged coffee and now Starbucks VIA.
