Square officially opens bitcoin trading on Cash app

Square has expanded bitcoin trading in its Cash person-to-person payments app after running a brief trial with select users, according to a tweet from CEO Jack Dorsey.

Dorsey, who is also Twitter's CEO, tweeted the news Thursday and included a link to an interactive storyboard that explains bitcoin to the average Joe and Jane. The site talks about the legend of Satoshi Nakamoto, the bitcoin enigmatic creator who has never revealed himself in public.

Square Cash users in Georgia, Hawaii, New York and Wyoming will not have access to bitcoin trading. Potential users can purchase up to $10,000 in bitcoin per week. Square said it will not add a purchase fee.

In related news, the popular Japan-based messaging app Line said it will integrate new services, including a virtual currency exchange. Line has applied to Japan's Financial Services Agency for authorization to become a digital asset exchange.
