Reorganization at PayPal reflects shift to mobile

PayPal sees its future and its future apparently is very mobile. To comport with that view, the company announced it is retweaking its products, rejiggering its organization and promoting key executives to handle the shift.

In a post on the company's blog, company president David Marcus said that PayPal's strategy and personnel moves are in response to an overall shift in consumer expectations.

"Everywhere, people aspire to simplicity. In their lives, at work, and at every interaction," Marcus said. "At PayPal, we want to make the lives of our customers a lot better by reducing the distance between what they want and what they get. We also aspire to enable people to have more of what they want through better, simpler financial services, and products."

Organizational changes reflecting PayPal's new mobile focus include bringing all of the company's product groups into one organization. The new global product group will have Hill Ferguson at the helm. Ferguson formerly led PayPal's mobile group.

"Mobile is simpler by definition," Marcus said in his post. "Starting product designs from mobile will force the elimination of features introducing unneeded complexity."
