Prepaid data SIM card kiosk arrives at Osaka airport
Osaka's Kansai International Airport has become the first Japanese airport to introduce a prepaid data SIM card vending machine.
Tourists visiting Japan can buy So-net LTE SIM cards from the kiosk, insert them into their mobile devices and access the LTE high-speed communications service operated in Japan by NTT Docomo.
The LTE SIM cards from Sony subsidiary So-net retail at 3,000 yen ($29) for 100MB and 5,000 yen ($49) for 500MB. Top-ups are also available.
Once they have purchased an LTE SIM card from the kiosk and inserted it into their mobile device, consumers are able to configure and launch the LTE mobile data service.
So-net's prepaid LTE SIM cards are available at several other airports and locations, but Kansai airport is the only location where the cards are sold from a kiosk.
