MPOS provider payleven releases Android version, says EMV reader coming soon

More mobile POS news from Europe. This time it's payleven, the mPOS solution from Rocket Internet that's expanding into new countries. The company announced that it's rolling out an Android version of the product and launching the service in Italy, the U.K. and Poland.

Just like the iOS version, the new Android version of payleven turns a mobile device into a payment terminal so merchants can accept debit and credit cards. Merchants pay a 2.75 percent fee on each transaction.

Payleven also said it will provide a chip-and-PIN version of its reader early next year.

"The way people pay is changing rapidly — Europe is at the moment on the cusp of a mobile payment revolution," said Ian Marsh, Payleven UK co-founder and CEO. "Payleven is aiming to redefine the highest standard for mobile payment applications by offering a mobile chip-and-PIN solution with the only fully compliant card reader to accept all major debit and credit cards and provide users with full fraud protection."

Marsh said expanding the compay's platform to include Android devices, which comprise 70 percent of smartphones shipped globally, is a part of its strategy to offer a chip-and-PIN device.
