Mobile POS provider iZettle launches new device to accept mobile payments

The company's new hardware will support contactless payments in addition to chip-and-PIN transactions.

Sweden-based iZettle today announced a new mobile point-of-sale product that integrates both chip-and-PIN and contactless payments, with an emphasis on Apple Pay, according to a press release.

Starting today, iZettle's new contactless card reader, the Card Reader Pro Contactless, is being distributed to select partners across the U.K., followed by a wider launch on June 1. The new hardware will gradually hit markets globally in the coming months and will retail for around 79 pounds ($122.62 ), with price variations depending on markets.

Apple Pay, it should be noted, is live only in the U.S.

"The launch will make iZettle the first company of its kind to offer small businesses support for Apple Pay and contactless payments," Jacob de Geer, iZettle CEO and cofounder, said in a statement.

The new reader also supports other mobile payments apps, such as Google Wallet.

Separately on Tuesday, iZettle is introduced its service in France, the company's 11th market to date.
