MasterCard grocery app puts ordering right in the kitchen
The Groceries by MasterCard shopping app, integrated in the Samsung Family Hub refrigerator, lets consumers buy food from online FreshDirect and Shop Right right in the kitchen.
The app signifies MasterCard's move into the smart home market and expands on its Commerce for Every Device strategy regarding development of internet-connected payment devices.
"Groceries by MasterCard is a digital app that lets you browse and order groceries from FreshDirect and ShopRite by simply swiping and tapping the Wi-Fi-enabled touchscreen of the refrigerator. The touchscreen makes for easy navigation as you browse through selections," explains a blog post announcement.
The app provides insight on nutritional value, allergen information and freshness rating of products
Once the order is final the list is approved with a four-digit pin, providing control over household purchases, stated the blog.
"You'll pay for items in a simple checkout experience that accepts any U.S.-issued credit and debit cards, and can get the items delivered to your home or pick it up at your convenience," stated the blog.
In the future MasterCard intends to rollout new features to the app such as voice ordering, loyalty and rewards programs and coupon use.
