IdeaBank "Uberizes" the ATM

A new mobile service from the Polish FI will allow small merchants to summon a specially outfitted vehicle that contains a deposit box and a cash machine.

IdeaBank, a Polish FI, is launching a new cash delivery service for small businesses. The bank has outfitted four BMW i3 automobiles with built-in depositories and ATMs that can be summoned via smartphone, according to a report by Financial Times.

To withdraw or deposit cash, the merchant simply places an order through the IdeaBank Money Collection app, which dispatches one of the bank's mobile money cars to the customer's place of business.

IdeaBank Chariman Jarosław Augustyniak told FT that the service will save both time and money for one million small business owners in Poland who deal solely in cash.

"Given the ability to access a deposit ATM at a place of their choice, our clients would be more keen on account deposits, instead of keeping cash at home," he said.

IdeaBank plans eventually to deploy 40 of the Money Collection BMWs. The cars will be driven by security personnel and will have GPS tracking technology, FT said.
