FutureProof Retail preps grocery mobile checkout app for Canada

FutureProof Retail, a U.S. mobile software provider, announced today the availability of its mobile checkout application to Canadian retailers, according to a company press release. The company hopes to bring its app to Canadian shoppers later this year.

FutureProof's app is a white-label product merchants can offer to customers. With this app in hand, customers shop as usual, but scan items as they are placed in the cart. Once the shopping trip is complete, the consumer pushes a 'check out' button, and pays with a credit or debit card that is linked to the account or Apple Pay.

The expansion of FutureProof Retail into the Canadian market begins with Founder Di Di Chan headlining the Canadian Grocer's Thought Starters conference June 8 in Toronto. The conference theme, Grocery 2020, is a forum for industry leaders to divulge what disruptive trends, innovative technologies and new business models the industry will face in the next five years, and how retailers can stay competitive with a clear plan of action for the future, according to the announcement.

FutureProof said it is in discussions with numerous large-scale U.S. retailers.

"Canadians are well known as early technology adopters, so the decision to bring Mobile Checkout to Canada was an easy one," Chan said. "It's not so much a question of 'when' mobile checkout technology will take over the retail space, but who will be the early adopters that rise above the competition."
