European mPOS provider raises $10 million in funding

Orderbird to increase its product portfolio and advance its international expansion.

The iPad point-of-sale provider orderbird this week announced it closed $10 million in series B funding, according to a press release.

Orderbird's main strategic investor is ConCardis, a specialist in cashless payments. Alongside ConCardis there are also private investors from the U.S. and Luxemburg as well as early investors. The money will be used to increase its product portfolio and advance its international expansion, the company said.

Orderbird said in the announcement this funding round was one of the biggest for the company as well as the largest investment ConCardis has done to date. Both companies formed a strategic and operational partnership in order to strengthen their market position within mobile POS products, according to the announcment. ConCardis just recently introduced its own mobile payment solution called ConCardis OptiPay. A joint product development is planned in the future, according to the announcement.

"We want [to] and will grow together with orderbird, especially internationally," Rainer Sureth, CEO of ConCardis, said in a statement. "ConCardis has always been focused on strategic alliances that help each of the parties to be successful."

"We are happy that we found an experienced partner in ConCardis, which is not only our investor but who is also there to strategically support our growth. Together we will benefit from a large retailer base and can use synergies jointly," Jakob Schreyer, CEO and founder, orderbird, said in a statement.
