Emirates takes off with Android Pay

CellPoint Mobile, a payments and mobile commerce products provider for airlines, has partnered with Emirates to allow airline passengers to purchase tickets and travel products directly from the Android Pay-enabled Emirates mobile app.

"Almost all of today's passengers rely on their smartphones and mobile devices to pay for items and interact with airlines as they travel," said Kristian Gjerding, CEO of CellPoint Mobile. "Adding Android Pay to the pool of available payment options offers Emirates passengers simplicity, security and choice when paying for things with their Android phones."

According to Gjerding, the Android Pay integration is already live for passengers who have downloaded the Emirates app.

Available to U.S. consumers at select retail stores, Android Pay launched officially on May 18 in the U.K. CellPoint Mobile's integration of Android Pay makes Emirates the world's first airline to integrate "Buy with Android Pay" for its passengers. With Android Pay fully integrated into CellPoint Mobile's platform, rollouts with new airline clients can be accomplished in days or weeks rather than months, according to a press release.

"We want to make it easier for businesses like Emirates to offer a faster in-app payment solution for their passengers," said Pali Bhat, director of product management for Google. "With Android Pay, people will be able to speed through checkout with their Android phones in as few as two clicks."
