Dell to test bitcoin acceptance

Yet another computer hardware provider is accepting bitcoin as payment. Dell Friday announced on its community blog that it has partnered with Coinbase to accept the virutal currency on its website for both consumer and business purchases.

Dell calls this a test and is following in the footsteps of other retailers such as Overstock and providing discounts for bitcoin purchases.

"I'm excited to share in the coming days we'll be offering a special Alienware promotion wherein customers can save 10 percent off a new Alienware system purchase (up to $150 limit) when checking out with bitcoin," Laura Thomas, the company's chief blogger, wrote in the post. "Stay tuned to Dell.com/bitcoin for more information on this exciting offer."

Dell joins Newegg and TigerDirect as computer retail specialists that accept bitcoin.
