Dallas transit launches NFC payment card, cash loading capability

Dallas Area Rapid Transit has partnered with PayNearMe to allow travelers to load transit cards with cash. The company also has launched a new GoPass card, which is enabled for NFC, according to a press release.

Passengers can load cash onto their cards at 800 retail locations including 7-Eleven and Fidelity Express stores and use the GoPass mobile application to pay in cash for fares. The GoPass card's NFC technology will enable readers to automatically deduct the right amount from the user's account, according to the press release.

"Today, more than 80 percent of the fare value collected on the bus or through our ticket vending machines is paid in cash," said David Leininger, executive vice president and chief financial officer at DART.

"With 250,000 riders depending on DART for transportation, it was essential that we offer an easy-to-use and error-free system," said Danny Shader, PayNearMe's founder and CEO. "Through the millions of transactions we currently process, PayNearMe has the proven record of reliability and user satisfaction that DART riders deserve. We look forward to bringing this solution to other transit operators across the U.S."
