Community FIs counting down the hours to Apple Watch launch

Maluzai Software is working with eight community FIs to offer its SmartwearApps to mobile banking customers who plan to strap on an Apple Watch when it becomes available on the 24th.

Malauzai Software, a provider of mobile and Internet banking apps for community FIs, is working with five community banks to launch its SmartwearApps for the Apple Watch. These early adopters include: Ameriana Bank of New Castle, Indiana; BankMobile
Customers Bank in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania; First United Bank in Dimmit, Texas; and Happy State Bank in Happy, Texas.

Customers of these FIs who use mobile banking and purchase an Apple Watch will be able to check balances, view transaction history for available accounts and access a branch locator on the device, the release said. The SmartwearApp is available in English and Spanish and provides banks with a screen for advertising and educational alerts.

"Our customers want to know that their community bank is being innovative and responsive to their demands," said Matthew Smith, vice president of ebanking services at Happy State Bank. "The Apple Watch app ... provide[s] accountholders a variety of ways to interact with us."

Malauzai currently is working with eight community banks and credit unions that will have an Apple Watch app live on April 24 when the device is launched. The company believes that banking engagement for the watch will be high in its initial phase.

"We are certain that watch banking will be one of the 'killer apps' when the Apple Watch launches," said Robb Gaynor, chief product officer of Malauzai. "These banks are true leaders and are dedicated to providing their customers with the latest mobile features, ensuring that community institutions are consistently meeting, and exceeding, the technology offerings of larger competitors. Developing for the watch has been a fascinating experience and our clients have proven to be dedicated partners throughout this process."
