BofA, Wells Fargo reportedly integrating Apple Pay at the ATM

Cardless ATM access is suddenly surging in the US.

Bank of American and Wells Fargo reportedly are working to integrate Apple Pay cardless access at ATMs, according to a report from TechCruch.

"We’ve been working on the technology that allows us to hook to digital wallets, leveraging NFC on mobile phones to replace the card at the transaction at the ATM. Right now the wallet that we support is Android Pay," said Jonathan Velline, EVP of ATM banking and store strategy at Wells Fargo.

Velline told TechCrunch that the FI will likely add more mobile wallet support throughout the year, and confirmed Apple Pay support when pressed by the reporter.

As for BofA, TechCrunch said that it had confirmed the identity of one engineer who was working on Apple Pay ATM integration for the bank. A BofA spokeswomen said that the bank currently is rolling out cardless ATM transactions (which the Charlotte Observer reported Wednesday) that will "enable customers to leverage NFC technology on their smartphone in order to authenticate and complete transactions at a Bank of America ATM."

On Tuesday, the New York Post reported that Chase is set to roll out cardless ATM access via mobile app later this year.
