Barclays caves, will support Apple Pay

Barclays support for Apple Pay was noticeably absent last month during Apple developers' conference.

Apple Pay arrived in the U.K. today, and gained a new fan as well as Barclays tweeted it will eventually support the mobile-payment system.

"We are really excited about the launch of Apple Pay and can confirm that we will bring Barclays debit cards and Barclaycard credit cards to Apple Pay in the future," a Barclays spokesperson told Buiness Insider

Last week, Barclays became the latest U.K. bank to support Zapp, a mobile payments system Vocalink first announced almost two years ago. After almost a year of delays, Vocalink plans to launch the system in October.

Multiple media reports indicate Barclays' Pingit mobile funds transfer service will be the first financial institution to support Zapp.

Barclays support for Apple Pay was noticeably absent last month during Apple developers' conference. The bank later said it will push its own contactless payments devices, including a wristband that contains a contactless Visa chip.

Barclays did not reveal when it will add Apple Pay support, according to the Business Insider report.
