Australian bank to add Apple TouchID mobile app access
St. George Bank plans to release the feature next month once Apple updates its mobile operating system.
St. George Bank in Australia is preparing to update its mobile banking app for iOS to enable customers to log into their accounts using the iPhone 5s' TouchID fingerprint scanner, according to multiple reports.
The bank will add the feature next month when Apple officially releases its iOS8 system update during an event Sept. 9. Apple is also expected to announce the new iPhone at that time.
Earlier this year, Apple made available a TouchID SDK that enables software developers to integrate the fingerprint scanner into an app.
