NCR Silver offers a scalable mobile POS option for larger merchants

The established players in the point of sale market have faced plenty of disruption recently with the advent of mPOS solutions. And there isn't a more established player than NCR, as in National Cash Register.

The company didn't invent the cash register, but they did make it ubiquitous. And now they're looking to do the same with mPOS, competing with solutions from Square and Revel Systems that allow small merchants to deploy surprisingly robust little systems at a reasonable cost by using tablet computers.

The issue for these newer, smaller POS terminals, however, is they haven't been able to scale well. And most have no way to integrate with the back-office software that many merchants use. In other words, there have been few options for the mid-sized merchant looking for a portable, tablet-based solution.

This is the market NCR is looking to capture with its new NCR Silver solution. NCR Silver offers a fully scalable POS solution that allows flexible configuration and integration with the other software solutions merchants need to run their business.

At the recent BAI Retail Delivery Conference in Washington, D.C., Jack O'Malley from NCR's SMB retail group gave Mobile Payments Today editor James Wester an overview of the NCR Silver solution.
