VeriFone is going to China, and has announced that wireless carrier China Mobile and Bank of China will deploy its managed services solutions for NFC payment and mobile marketing in Shen Yang, China.
On the merchant side, VeriFone is partnering with Shen Yang Badatong E-Commerce Co. Ltd. to equip thousands of retailers with VeriFone NFC acceptance systems for payment and redemption via NFC at the point of sale, the company said.
This is VeriFone's first implementation of its PAYMEDIA Mobile Marketing Platform that gives merchants and retailers the ability send targeted messaging campaigns to mobile wallet subscribers.
"VeriFone solutions make it possible for consumers and merchants to fully leverage the power and simplicity of NFC technology supported by Bank of China and China Mobile," said Zvi Mitlanski, senior vice president at VeriFone Asia Pacific.
Mitlanski said the project shows the potential of VeriFone's Payments-as-a-Service strategy in providing Shen Yang with a complete infrastructure for provisioning, integrating and managing wallets and other mobile apps.
"Bank of China and China Mobile are implementing a true end-to-end NFC infrastructure, working with Shen Yang Badatong to make NFC payment and mobile commerce a reality for merchants and consumers," Mitlanski said.
According to VeriFone, China Mobile and Bank of China expect to issue around 50,000 SIM cards to subscribers through bank branches and China Mobile customer support centers.
VeriFone hopes to replicate this same model across other Chinese provinces as well as globally through partnerships with mobile network operators and wallet providers, the company said.
