Square is looking to sign another retail partner, this time luxury fashion brand Burberry. According to a report on The Next Web, sources familiar with the plan said Burberry will install Square payment readers and Square Register at its U.S. retail locations in the near future.
For a luxury brand like Burberry, arming associates with a mobile point-of-sale solution means a more personal experience between the store and its customers. Many high-end retail brands have begun following a similar strategy, most notably Apple Store and Nordstrom.
For Square, the news means its partnership with Starbucks wasn't a one-time foray into working with larger merchants. That can only be good for Square, as its stable of merchants outside of Starbucks has been mostly made up of small, single-location retailers, and the competition for their business in the mobile POS space has become increasingly heated.
The Next Web said that the official announcement of the Square-Burberry partnership will be made soon by Square CEO Jack Dorsey.
