Austin-based Tabbedout is heading to the nation's capital. The company has announced that its mobile payment app, which allows bar and restaurant customers to open and pay a tab right from their mobile devices, is now accepted in 40 locations throughout the D.C. area. Participating restaurants currently include Nellie's Sports Bar and brands in the Clyde's Restaurant Group; others will be coming online soon.
TabbedOut credits its strategy of integrating with major point-of-sale providers like MICROS for making it easy for bars and restaurants in the D.C. area to deploy its payment solution without needing to purchase additional hardware.
"Our integrations with major POS providers make it easy for mid-Atlantic region bars and restaurants to provide mobile payment to their patrons in a way that is simple, secure, easy to install and made specifically for the hospitality industry," said TabbedOut President Alex Broeker. "Mobile payment is the platform that will enable merchants to do so much more, like capture customer preferences and push targeted offers, and we already are enabling our merchants to do just that."
In addition to letting patrons pay their tabs from their mobile devices, TabbedOut's app lets bars and restaurants push offers to consumers, who can then apply them directly to their bills when they pay.

Clyde's owns and operates 14 restaurants around the D.C. area including the historic Old Ebbitt Grill. "We realize that the demand for mobile payment is growing, and we wanted to make sure we had a trusted solution in place so our guests have the best experience possible when they come to our venue."
TabbedOut users can now pay at more than 1,000 bars and restaurants using their phones. The app is available for both iOS and Android devices.
