Direct carrier biller Boku Inc. has a new partner. The company announced today it has been selected by payment service provider WorldPay as its global mobile payments partner. WorldPay will now integrate Boku's payments platform into its payment network.
The partnership means merchants who use WorldPay to process their payments will be able to offer customers the choice of putting payments on their monthly bill, a handy option for digital content like games where customers may be younger or lack access to a credit or debit account.
"WorldPay is a leading payment service provider with an outstanding network of merchants,” said Boku's SVP and managing director James Patmore in the announcement.
Patmore said Boku's technology will help those merchants by doing the hard work necessary to process international transactions, services like foreign exchange, granular price points, and multiple currencies and languages.
"We believe BOKU offers WorldPay merchants a powerful tool for the acquisition of new customers and an opportunity to enhance their purchase experience, leveraging the convenience of BOKU for all types of digital goods and services,” Patmore said.
Boku said its mobile payment network is available to more than 4 billion customers in 67 countries through more than 260 carriers.
Gabriel Hopkins, head of ecommerce product for WorldPay, said this is the ideal time for his company to offer merchants a mobile payments checkout option from Boku.
According to WorldPay's research consumers are frustrated by the length of time mobile transactions take to process and are irritated by the information required to complete the process.
"mCommerce has grown in popularity among consumers over the past few years and mobile transactions are now a viable way to pay for goods and services," Hopkins said. "Yet, research has shown that there is still room for improvement when it comes to meeting consumer requirements for mobile payments. BOKU has continued to address such demands with a platform that has proven to be a convenient and trusted option for mobile shoppers."
