Siemens Communications, Media and Technology (CMT) is set to introduce a new mobile payment solution in cooperation with Nokia Siemens Networks’ (NSN). The mobile wallet solution will provide a tighter integration of existing mobile payment services resulting in a more robust experience for consumers. New feature will include a variety of mobile payment and mobile couponing services including the ability to integrate with social media networks like Facebook.
The news will be announced at next week's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and the solution will be demoed at the event.
In the announcment by Siemens CMT, the company said its walletXpress comes with comprehensive mobile payment options for providers, enabling a convenient method for consumers to pay for things like airtime top-up, or even allow for the purchase of consumer goods and services from merchants.
Additionally, walletXpress provides access to various payment channels including a mobile wallet for carriers to offer direct carrier billing or bank and credit-card payments
The walletXpress also integrates with Siemens CMT’s loyalty solution, bonusXpress. The combined suite of services lets users collect rewards points and take advantage of discounts that are served up during the payment process.
"The days of telco billing as we know it today are numbered," Rick Centeno, the head of NSN's Business Support Systems, in the announcement. "The time has come to rethink and remodel all online and offline value transactions telecom providers offer."
Centeno said the vision of the partners was to create a new and innovative combination of charging, real-time billing and payment in one solution, a solution that will spark enthusiasm in the customers of carriers.
